Chelsea has taken a decisive step in strengthening its defense by recalling 19-year-old Argentine center-back Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Boca Juniors.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the highly-rated youngster, signed last summer, has been integrated into the squad ahead of schedule.
Anselmino made an impression during his time at Boca Juniors, featuring in 11 league games and displaying maturity beyond his years.
Manager Enzo Maresca sees the defender as a promising addition who can develop within Chelsea’s system and adapt to the Premier League’s demands.
Anselmino, who impressed during his 23 appearances at Boca, has already expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to ESPN’s SportsCenter, he described his move as a “dream come true,” adding that he’s eager to impress manager Enzo Maresca and integrate into Chelsea’s system.
“I’m very happy for this opportunity. It’s a dream come true for any footballer,” Anselmino said. “I spoke with the Chelsea advisors and Enzo Fernández. Everything is going very well.”
The young defender arrives at a critical time, with Chelsea struggling defensively due to injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.
While it’s unclear if Anselmino will stay for the remainder of the season or head out on a European loan, he is expected to feature in the FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe on January 11, pending work permit approval.
Anselmino’s journey to Chelsea has been shaped by guidance from experienced teammates such as Sergio Romero and Edinson Cavani, who advised him to stay focused and seize the moment.
This move aligns with Chelsea’s broader strategy of blending youth and experience to solidify their backline.
Whether it’s the potential acquisition of Tomori or Anselmino’s integration, the Blues are clearly prioritizing defensive stability to address their challenges this season.
Chelsea fans are eager to see what the highly-rated teenager can bring to the team, and with his promising talent and determination, he may soon play a pivotal role in strengthening the club’s backline.
