Chelsea delivered a commanding 5-0 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup third round, led by a standout performance from Tosin Adarabioyo.
The defender scored his first career brace, showcasing remarkable precision with two long-range goals, including a stunning top-corner strike.
Joao Félix also impressed with two goals, while Christopher Nkunku added another to seal Chelsea’s victory. This match marked the first time since 2020 that a Chelsea center-back scored twice in a game.
Reflecting on his performance, Adarabioyo shared with BBC:
It’s the first time in my career I was on a hat-trick. I wanted another shot, but it didn’t come!
Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, lauded the team’s professionalism, saying:
I am very happy with the performance and result.
The victory ended Chelsea’s four-match winless streak, providing momentum for their upcoming Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
The game also saw the return of Romeo Lavia and Reece James from injury, both playing 45 minutes as part of a managed recovery plan.
Maresca confirmed their fitness and emphasized the importance of game readiness for the team’s challenges ahead.
They are both OK after 45 minutes and we are happy with that. It is good that players can get minutes and they can be ready in any games when we need them. We are already thinking about Tuesday’s game [with Bournemouth] and tomorrow we will prepare for Tuesday.
Chelsea will be hoping to build on this strong performance and carry the momentum into their upcoming fixtures.
