Chelsea’s winless streak extended to five matches following a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on January 14, 2025.
The Blues took an early lead in the 14th minute when Cole Palmer netted his 14th goal of the season.
Nicolas Jackson played a crucial role by maintaining possession under pressure and initiating the attack. He passed the ball to Palmer, who performed a fake shot to deceive the goalkeeper before successfully scoring.
Despite dominating the first half, Chelsea failed to capitalize on several opportunities to extend their lead.
Early in the second half, Bournemouth equalized through a penalty by Justin Kluivert after Moisés Caicedo’s foul in the box. The visitors then took the lead in the 68th minute when Antoine Semenyo capitalized on rookie Josh Acheampong’s error to score.
Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, returning from injury, salvaged a point for the home side with a stunning free-kick in the 95th minute. His perfectly placed curling shot into the far corner left Bournemouth’s goalkeeper, Mark Travers, with no chance.
The result leaves Chelsea in fourth place with 37 points from 21 matches, while Bournemouth sits seventh with 34 points.
Manager Enzo Maresca expressed concern over the team’s inability to secure victories, stating:
It’s a shame because I think we deserved to win the game; we had so many chances. We know we have to be clinical; otherwise, the game is always open.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola expressed mixed feelings following his team’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
He praised his players’ resilience, stating:
I’m proud of the way we fought back to take the lead, especially given the injury challenges we’ve faced. However, conceding so late is disappointing.
Iraola also commented on the controversial incident involving David Brooks and Marc Cucurella, noting:
I haven’t seen the replay yet, but we always aim to play fair and within the rules.
Chelsea will look to break their winless run in their upcoming fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Bournemouth prepares to face Aston Villa.
