Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is a major doubt for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United after sustaining an ankle injury during the Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old right-back was forced off in the 73rd minute of Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield, with Jarell Quansah coming on as his replacement.

Manager Arne Slot admitted the injury looked concerning.

“[Trent] had to come off. That’s never a good sign,” Slot said. “From what I heard, the way he got injured did not look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday.”

Blow for Club and Country

Alexander-Arnold’s potential absence is a major setback for Liverpool, who are chasing their first domestic trophy under Slot.

It also raises concerns for England, with World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia later this month.

Liverpool also suffered another injury scare as Ibrahima Konaté limped off in extra time. However, Slot believes that issue was due to fatigue rather than a serious problem.

With Alexander-Arnold likely sidelined, Quansah could be set for a starting role as Liverpool look to overcome this setback and lift the Carabao Cup.
