Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, currently on loan at RC Strasbourg from Chelsea, experienced a traumatic incident during his latest Ligue 1 match against Lille.

While producing a standout performance and scoring a crucial goal, Santos’s home was broken into, resulting in the theft of possessions valued at approximately £420,000.

The incident occurred on Saturday while Strasbourg secured a 2-1 victory at Stade de la Meinau.

Reports from France reveal that the burglars forced open the front door of Santos’s flat, making away with high-value jewellery and other valuables.

Upon discovering the burglary, the 20-year-old took to social media to express his outrage.

“People from Strasbourg, I’ve always respected everyone, they were cowardly while I was playing today!” Santos shared on his Instagram Story. “Whoever stole (from) my house has 24 hours to return everything.”

Despite the distressing turn of events, Santos remained professional on the pitch, playing a key role in Strasbourg’s victory. His equalizer paved the way for Emanuel Emegha’s winning goal, helping Liam Rosenior’s side secure three points.

Reflecting on the match, Santos found a glimmer of positivity in his performance.

“Crazy night!” he posted on Instagram. “Goal, and another victory, happy to reach the 8 goal mark for the season. Glory for God, always.”

Santos has been enjoying a successful season with RC Strasbourg, notching eight goals in 19 appearances.

His impressive performances have even sparked calls for a potential return to Chelsea, especially given the club’s struggles with injuries in midfield, including Romeo Lavia’s extended absence.

The Brazilian international has also taken on leadership responsibilities at the club, wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Habib Diarra.

Head coach Liam Rosenior praised Santos for his professionalism and dedication:

He constantly shows professionalism every day in his work, he constantly wants to improve and constantly trains at 100%. There were other players that had a worthy cause to be captain, but I felt that Andrey was the right choice. I felt that he didn’t do the armband any disservice at all.

As the police investigate the burglary, Santos, who is expecting his first child with his wife Yngryd Freire, hopes for the return of his stolen possessions and can only look forward to continuing his successful run on the pitch.
