Jadon Sancho arrived at Chelsea with high expectations, eager to revive his career after a difficult spell at Manchester United.
His initial performances under Enzo Maresca showed promise, but a drastic dip in form has left his Premier League future hanging in the balance.
A Promising Start at Chelsea
Sancho’s early days at Stamford Bridge were filled with optimism. He flourished in Maresca’s attacking system, registering assists and showing the confidence that had been missing during his time at Old Trafford.
His standout moment came against Tottenham in a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory, where he scored a brilliant solo goal and played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s attack.
At that point, Sancho appeared to have turned a corner. Chelsea, unexpectedly competing at the top of the Premier League, seemed to have found a key player in him.
Form Collapse and Growing Concerns
However, since December, Sancho’s performances have declined sharply. His lack of impact on the pitch has been noticeable—he has created just 11 chances in Chelsea’s last eight league games.
Once a direct and dangerous winger, he has stopped taking on defenders, mirroring the struggles he faced at Manchester United.
Club legend John Obi Mikel recently voiced concerns about Sancho’s lack of intensity, stating on his podcast:
He came through the door and showed why I wanted him… but since December, we haven’t seen anything from Jadon. He cannot relax here.
The issue reached a low point in Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton, where Sancho failed to complete a dribble or register a shot in 74 minutes.
His lack of effort was evident, leading Maresca to substitute him for 19-year-old Tyrique George—a clear signal of frustration from the manager.
Limited Options and a Second Chance
Despite his struggles, Sancho is likely to keep his place in Chelsea’s lineup due to squad limitations.
Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension has left the left-wing position open, and Chelsea’s decision to loan out Joao Felix has further reduced competition.
Reports from The Athletic suggest that the club still believes in Sancho’s potential, but the patience of both the manager and the fans is wearing thin.
Attitude Issues Resurface
Sancho has often been criticized for his mentality, and his recent behavior hasn’t helped.
His Instagram comment on Marcus Rashford’s post—simply stating “Freedom”—sparked backlash, with many fans accusing him of lacking professionalism.

Sancho’s perceived lack of accountability is becoming a recurring theme in his career, and without a change in mindset, he risks being cast aside once again.

Chelsea’s £25 million obligation to buy Sancho means he isn’t in immediate danger, but his future at the club is far from secure.
If Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League, another summer of spending is likely, and Sancho could find himself surplus to requirements.
The Blues have already been linked with AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, a player who could directly replace him.
If Sancho doesn’t improve soon, he could face the same fate as he did at United—out of favor, out of the England squad, and struggling to find a top club willing to take a chance on him.
