Chelsea ended their three-game losing streak with a dominant performance against Southampton, securing a crucial 4-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s Attacking Display

The win sees the Blues move back into the Premier League’s top four, two points ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham, who have games in hand.

The Blues wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Christopher Nkunku opening the scoring in the 24th minute.

The French forward capitalized on Tosin Adarabioyo’s flick-on from a corner, heading home to give Chelsea the lead.

Nkunku was instrumental again just 12 minutes later, setting up Pedro Neto for Chelsea’s second.

Neto showed great composure, slotting the ball past Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with a low finish.

Levi Colwill added a third just before halftime, rising highest to meet Neto’s wide free-kick and nodding the ball into the net.

In the 78th minute, substitute Tyrique George set up Marc Cucurella, who finished off a well-executed counter-attack to seal the victory.

The convincing win was a much-needed boost for Chelsea, who had only won three of their previous 12 matches in all competitions before this fixture.

Palmer’s Goal Drought Continues

Despite the win, there are still concerns over Cole Palmer’s recent struggles in front of goal.

The Blues’ top scorer has now gone seven games without finding the net, missing several golden opportunities against Southampton.

Palmer saw two one-on-one chances go begging in the first half—one saved by Ramsdale and the other dragged wide.

He also missed a cut-back opportunity after the break and had a free-kick kept out by the Saints’ keeper.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, however, remains confident in Palmer, urging him to “keep smiling” as the goals will eventually come.

A Comfortable Night for Jorgensen

Maresca also made a bold decision by starting goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who had been at fault for Aston Villa’s late winner in Chelsea’s previous match.

The 22-year-old Swedish shot-stopper had little to do against Southampton but did make an important diving save to deny Paul Onuachu’s powerful first-half header.

Late in the match, Chelsea handed Premier League debuts to 19-year-old midfielder Mathis Amougou and 17-year-old forward Shumaira Mheuka, showcasing the club’s promising youth talent.

Southampton’s Nightmare Season Continues

For Southampton, the loss further deepens their relegation woes. The Saints remain rock bottom with just nine points—matching the lowest-ever points total at this stage of a Premier League season.

The team’s struggles under manager Ivan Juric continue, with just one win in their last 10 league games. The lone victory came against fellow relegation battlers Ipswich Town.

Southampton created little against Chelsea, with Onuachu’s header being their only notable chance. Frustrated fans made their feelings clear, booing the team off at halftime as they trailed 3-0.

With just 11 matches left in the season, Southampton need a drastic turnaround to avoid the embarrassment of setting a new record for the worst points tally in Premier League history.

Looking Ahead

Chelsea will look to build on this result as they push to secure a top-four finish, while Southampton’s survival hopes continue to fade with each passing week.
