London, England – Chelsea FC’s hopes of bolstering their defense have been dealt a significant setback as star full-back Reece James’ comeback from injury has been delayed.
James suffered a hamstring injury during pre-season, just days before the 2024/25 Premier League campaign kicked off.
This latest setback comes after the Chelsea skipper underwent surgery in December 2023 to address persistent hamstring problems.
According to The Sun, James’ hamstring issue has not healed as expected, forcing Chelsea’s medical team to put his return on hold.
This latest development is a cruel blow for James, who has been plagued by injury issues over the last couple of seasons. The 23-year-old spent nearly five months out with a hamstring injury during the last campaign.
James’ absence has been deeply felt at Stamford Bridge, with manager Enzo Maresca relying on alternative options to fill the void.
Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto have deputized at full-back, but James’ athleticism, defensive prowess, and exceptional crossing ability have been sorely missed.
The delay may also impact James’ availability for future international fixtures.
Chelsea’s medical staff will continue to monitor James’ progress, but no official timeline has been set for his return.
