Chelsea have set a £65 million price tag on forward Christopher Nkunku as Bayern Munich express interest in signing the Frenchman.
The Blues are determined to secure a suitable replacement before allowing the transfer.
Chelsea signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023 for an initial £52 million, with add-ons reportedly pushing the final fee closer to £60 million.
Now, the Premier League club believes the 25-year-old’s market value has increased, reflecting his status as their joint-top scorer this season with 13 goals.
Bayern Munich are yet to confirm whether they will meet Chelsea’s valuation, but sources suggest that Nkunku has shown a desire to move to Germany, and personal terms are not expected to pose an obstacle.
To fill the potential gap, Chelsea are targeting Bayern’s 19-year-old forward, Mathys Tel, along with other options, including Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to make a formal bid for Tel if Bayern signals openness to negotiations.
While Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund has emphasized Tel’s importance to the club, he left room for discussions, stating, “If a player is unhappy, we can talk about it. Our clear plan with Mathys is for him to make his breakthrough here.”
Chelsea are also exploring defensive reinforcements as Axel Disasi is expected to leave. Options include recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace or pursuing Marc Guehi.
Additionally, the club has lined up a young center-back for the summer and could expedite the move.
With Nkunku’s future uncertain and transfer talks heating up, Chelsea’s transfer strategy for January is shaping into a high-stakes negotiation period.
