Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has challenged rising star Cole Palmer to emulate the success of football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Palmer’s Impressive Debut Season
Cole Palmer’s incredible debut season at Stamford Bridge earned him widespread recognition. He scored 25 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, an impressive feat that caught the attention of former England manager Gareth Southgate.
International Recognition
Palmer’s performances didn’t go unnoticed, as he received a European championship call-up by Southgate. He made five appearances for England, notching a goal in their final defeat to Spain.
In the new Premier League season, Palmer has continued to impress. He provided three assists and scored a goal against Wolves in a 6-2 rout, followed by another assist against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
Gallas’ Challenge
In his exclusive interview with Prime Casino, Gallas emphasized that Palmer’s impressive performance is only the beginning.
To be considered among the best, Palmer must maintain his level of performance over a long period, just like Messi and Ronaldo have done throughout their careers.
Cole Palmer needs to stay at his level. Produce a season like that again. And again. And again. Season after season, that’s what the very best players – the legends – do.
Gallas warned that achieving longevity and success in football is no easy task. “Messi and Ronaldo, these guys were the best for almost 15-20 years. It’s remarkable, and that is the standard if you want to be considered the best.”
To reach this level, Palmer must demonstrate “unbelievable commitment” and make “huge sacrifices.”
Gallas emphasized that maintaining peak performance over a sustained period requires immense mental strength and discipline.
Upcoming Challenge
Chelsea faces West Ham on September 21, providing Palmer with another opportunity to showcase his skills and continue his impressive form.
Will Cole Palmer rise to the challenge and join the elite ranks of Messi and Ronaldo? Only time will tell.
