A must-win match for Chelsea

Chelsea’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton last week has left the Conference League as their only realistic shot at silverware in Enzo Maresca’s first season.
As they prepare to face Brighton again in the Premier League this Friday, the pressure is mounting.
Despite Maresca’s optimism following the cup defeat, Chelsea fans remain unconvinced.
Last season, the Blues reached the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals. This season, they failed to progress past the fourth round in either competition.
While Chelsea have been dominant in the Conference League, the question remains: Is that enough for a club that still sees itself as Champions League material?
Slipping Form and a Stagnant Attack
Chelsea’s league form has dipped, with just two wins in their last eight games. Once considered potential title challengers, they have fallen 14 points behind leaders Liverpool.
A lack of cutting edge in attack has been a major issue. Cole Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout player, but with little support from the likes of Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and Jadon Sancho, opponents have found it easy to neutralize their attack.
Maresca’s tactical approach, particularly his use of inverted full-backs, has improved defensive stability but limited attacking creativity.
With Nicolas Jackson sidelined until April and Palmer struggling for goals in recent games, Chelsea’s offensive struggles are becoming more apparent.
Defensive Frailties and Missed Opportunities
Chelsea’s inability to hold onto leads has been another major concern. Since December, they have dropped 10 points from winning positions, most recently against Brighton.
The team’s inexperience—having not fielded a player over the age of 27 all season—has contributed to their inconsistency.
Maresca’s reluctance to make bold tactical changes mid-game has also raised eyebrows. His like-for-like substitutions at Brighton last weekend were questioned, as was his defensive approach against top teams like Manchester City.
A Must-Win Game for Chelsea
With their top-four hopes hanging in the balance, Chelsea must respond with a strong performance against Brighton.
A win would not only avenge their FA Cup defeat but also restore some belief among fans. However, another lackluster display could further increase doubts about Maresca’s long-term vision.
Can Chelsea turn things around, or will their struggles continue? All eyes will be on the Amex Stadium this Friday.
