Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s head coach, has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for September 2024.
This recognition follows a remarkable month in which Chelsea remained unbeaten, delivering a series of impressive performances under Maresca’s guidance.
The Italian coach has received significant praise for his tactical acumen and leadership, which have quickly revitalized the West London side this season. Chelsea currently sits fourth in the Premier League table with 14 points from seven matches, averaging two points per game.
They trail league leaders Liverpool by four points, and are just three points behind both Arsenal and Manchester City, who are in second and third positions, respectively.
During September, Chelsea played four league matches, recording three wins and one draw. They opened the month with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, followed by a 1-0 victory away at Bournemouth.
Maresca’s men then secured an emphatic 3-0 win over West Ham and capped off the month with a thrilling 4-2 victory at home against Brighton. Beyond the Premier League, Chelsea also displayed their strength in other competitions.
In the EFL Cup, they claimed a commanding 5-0 win over Barrow, and in the Europa Conference League, they outplayed Gent with a 4-2 victory.
Speaking to the Premier League website, Maresca said:
We all need people around us to make things better. I’m very grateful to have all of them. We are always looking at new things and how we can improve from different football and different countries.
Maresca’s impact on the team has been profound, particularly as he builds on his previous experience as an assistant coach at Manchester City, where he worked closely with Pep Guardiola. Known for his commitment to an attacking style of play, Maresca has implemented a strategic approach that has Chelsea fans excited about the future.
His successes are also paralleled by those in Chelsea’s women’s squad, as Sonia Bompastor, the club’s women’s team coach, won the Manager of the Month award for September.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer also received the EA Sports Player of the Month award, making it a triple honor for the club.
The accolades for Maresca, Bompastor, and Palmer underscore a stellar month for Chelsea, both in the Premier League and in European competition.
Chelsea supporters are hopeful that Maresca’s leadership will drive the team towards a successful season, as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title and achieve success across all competitions.
