Manchester City is closing in on the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
The deal, reportedly worth £29.4 million, marks a significant addition to Pep Guardiola’s plans to reinforce his squad mid-season.
Negotiations with Palmeiras have been ongoing for weeks, with the Brazilian club initially reluctant to part with the player ahead of next summer’s Club World Cup.
However, sources close to City believe a breakthrough has been achieved, paving the way for Reis to join the team immediately.
Reis, a right-footed center-back, has already made 18 league appearances for Palmeiras and is a Brazil under-17 international. His arrival would bolster City’s defensive options and is expected to be part of a broader squad reshaping.
The Premier League champions are also targeting Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and remain in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a move for striker Omar Marmoush.
Reflecting on his squad’s needs, Guardiola recently admitted, “Maybe I should have made summer signings,” emphasizing the urgency to strengthen key areas as the season progresses.
