Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has suggested that Cole Palmer could be deployed as a striker following injuries to both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu.

The Blues’ attacking options took a hit in their 2-1 win over West Ham, with Guiu facing a long spell on the sidelines and Jackson a doubt for the FA Cup clash against Brighton.

With the January transfer window closed, Chelsea must find internal solutions. While Christopher Nkunku is an option up front, Maresca sees his best role as a No.10.

That leaves Palmer, who has thrived in an attacking midfield role this season, as a possible candidate to lead the line.

“I had Cole playing as a nine in the past [at Manchester City’s youth setup],” Maresca revealed. “We can find some different solutions.”

Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout performer this season, contributing 14 goals and six assists in the Premier League.

Despite concerns over his workload, Maresca remains confident that the 22-year-old can handle additional responsibilities.

“We have just 14 league games left. Cole has played regularly since the start, so I don’t think this changes much for him,” Maresca added.

Chelsea’s attacking struggles have been a recurring theme, with Jackson enduring an eight-game goal drought and Nkunku facing fitness issues.

The club is expected to reassess their striking options in the summer transfer window, but for now, Maresca is focused on making the most of his current squad.

“It’s bad luck that in one game, two strikers got injured,” he said. “But Nico’s injury isn’t too serious, and Marc has a bright future ahead.”

As Chelsea push forward in the FA Cup and league campaign, Palmer’s potential role as a striker could be a fascinating development for the Blues.
