Chelsea’s versatile defender Renato Veiga is on the verge of securing a move to Borussia Dortmund this January, according to reports from Sky Sport Germany.

The Portuguese international has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga side, with a loan deal featuring a potential option to buy in the works.

Veiga, who joined Chelsea from FC Basel last summer, has made 17 appearances across all competitions this season.

Despite his versatility and promising performances, he has struggled to cement his place in Chelsea’s Premier League starting XI, managing just one league start.

Dortmund in Pole Position

Initially, Serie A side Napoli showed interest in the 21-year-old, but Dortmund have now emerged as the frontrunners. Their interest extends beyond Veiga, as Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka is also reportedly on their radar.

While Dortmund may have an agreement with Veiga, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reluctant to part ways with the talented defender.

Speaking after Chelsea’s emphatic 5-0 FA Cup victory over Morecambe, Maresca emphasized Veiga’s importance to the squad:

Renato is our player. He’s a player we’re happy to have here with us. The trust we showed by playing him in critical moments, like against Tottenham, speaks volumes.

However, Maresca also acknowledged that any decision will involve discussions with all parties to ensure the best outcome for both the player and the club.

Disasi Also Linked with Move

Veiga isn’t the only Chelsea defender who could leave this January. Reports suggest Axel Disasi is on Juventus’ shortlist of defensive targets.

The Italian giants are also considering moves for Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Benfica’s Antonio Silva.

With Chelsea’s defensive reshuffle on the horizon, the January transfer window promises to bring significant changes to Stamford Bridge.
